Workshop Description: Now that professionals were thrown into the deep end of the telehealth pool by COVID, many are wanting to take some time to consider their telehealth services and how they can be improved. Pre-COVID telehealth guidelines and competencies are rushing to the foreground, lighting the path for evidence-based telehealth service delivery for years to come.
This brief program will outline key findings published by the American Telemedicine Association for telemental health when working with children and adolescents. Participants will be giving an overview of key points related to clinical, technical, and legal/ethical issues of concern to many clinicians. For example, they will be shown quick and easy strategies to make their telepresence more powerful, how to maximize camera placement, and deal with other technical issues when working with either children alone or with others, such as their families or teachers. The audience will also be given a brief overview of published telebehavioral health competencies and shown how to use them systematically for self-evaluation of telehealth proficiency.
1. Outline the key clinical suggestions given by published telebehavioral health guidelines for using telehealth when working with children and adolescents
2. Describe how to maximize camera placement when working with children as well as their families through telehealth
3. Name the key legal considerations to consider when working with children using telemental health
